Bewitching

I love the show Bewitched! I really do. I grew up watching it with my Papa. And it was just this cool show that she can do magic and ta-da cool things happen.

Now that I'm older I'm like wow she could do magic and make things happen. Darren could have been set for life. She could magiced them all around the world. Whipped up amazing food. Given him a mansion. Anything he wanted she could have made happen with a twitch of her nose.

But he didn't.

Now that I'm older I think that is amazing. Why? Because he didn't let him do everything for him. He worked to get what he had. I found that admirable.

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

The Problem

Jana and her husband Gabe were excited to learn she was pregnant for the second time. Their son Barrett would be a big brother. During a routine doctor’s appointment, Jana found out her unborn child had a chromosomal abnormality known as Trisomy 18. Just 3 days shy of her scheduled full term induction, their baby girl's heart beat for the last time. Their daughter Mae was born still into this world.

The Solution

This week we are partnering with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS), an organization that connects parents who have recently suffered the loss of a newborn to volunteer photographers who are deployed immediately to take professional photos, providing memories that will last forever. With your support, we will provide peace and comfort to families while helping them to always remember their child.

About The Charity

NILMDTS trains, educates, and mobilizes professional quality photographers to provide beautiful heirloom portraits to families facing the untimely death of an infant. We believe these images serve as an important step in the family’s healing process by honoring the child’s legacy.

Who has a Keurig? This girl!

Did I tell you we got a Keurig? I love it, I had picked up some Starbucks k-cups including this blend. Yummy stuff right there. Of course I need like a huge box of them since I went through this in like 3 days. I drink a lot of coffee. I know.

GAYFACE: 1st CLASS

From the artist:

As a queer woman and an artist, I want to give the LGBTQ Community a platform to express their voice's and their truths. I want to show the many faces of this community, the diversity and the strength it takes to be who they are each day. In 2011 I started GAYFACE as a personal project but by 2012 the project started to gain recognition which moved me emotionally to pursue a dream of giving back to the community.

Through these photographs I'm capturing personalities and in that split second of the shutter clicking, I feel one with the subjects. I hope that these photographs bring awareness, a human connection and invoke emotion.

This project celebrates the color, vibrance and diversity of a community that for decades as been in the dark.

GAYFACE 1st Class.
I love the idea of this project and it would mean so much to me if you could stop by and check it out.

Merbellas #MermaidMonday

via deviantART
Merbellas are a sub-species of mermaids. Given the title Merbellas by Italian fishermen, it is the old name given to the "Mermaids" they saw that resembled beautiful women. They are spotted by the numerous shells and pearls, netting and eroded findings, always gathered in elaborate designs and worn on their head, neck and waist. Merbellas also create a very distinct, sub-species specific sound, as well as possessing a sort of humanistic politeness, so much as to cover thier breasts with seaweed and shells. This is something unseen in all other species of marine wildlife.

Redhead Myth: Vampire

This is me when I was 17 I look pretty much the same now. A few of my friends say I must be a vampire. Which is funny because there's a Greek myth that redheads turn into vampires when they die.

Me now. Told you, the same, just you know chubbier. And more tired.

Make a Cookbook with Blurb

Ever thought of putting your favorite recipes into a beautiful book you can give as a gift or pass down the generations? Blurb is a company that lets anyone create beautiful books from their favorite content, and get those books shipped in any quantity (even just one copy). Not a designer? That’s ok, Blurb’s free BookSmart software is an easy route to a great cookbook.

What's the best way to get started? Holding off a bit. It’s tempting to want to dive right in, but thinking a bit and getting organized is worth it in the end. Make the most of your time by dividing each step into chunks so you can tackle them at different points in your book-making process.

And here we go:

How to Make a Blurb Cookbook

1. Organize: Gather your recipes and do a process of elimination. Once you’ve narrowed your favorites down, you can gather accompanying images—just make sure you’re giving the recipe and image files the same name to make it easier when it’s time to upload. Keep everything in one folder on your computer.

2. Flow it: Next, determine how you want your cookbook story to flow. Do you want to sort your recipes by age, popularity, or even something else? Once you’ve determined the order, you’ll have done the bulk of your creative decision-making.

3. Get the tool: Download our free book-making tool, BookSmart, choose your book size (Standard Portrait and Standard Landscape are the most popular for cookbooks) and input your title and author name. Then choose “Cookbook” as your starting point — this will give you the best layouts for the job. Then pick a source for your images — from iPhoto, your computer, even Flickr or Picasa. Lastly, choose a theme. Now you’re ready to put together your cookbook.

4. Lay it out: This is where the real book-making comes in. BookSmart will provide you with 20 pages in our standard recipe layout, but you’ll find plenty of alternate layouts in the “Choose page layout” panel on the upper left. You can also add additional pages — including photo pages — by clicking “Add Pages” in the top toolbar.

5. Just add copy: Our layouts provide space for stories, introductions, and those all-important ingredients and directions. Paste in your copy and you’re golden. Then garnish with photos. Don't forget to run BookSmart’s spell check feature.

6. Preview and review: Click “Review book” and go through page by page. If you’re not a natural-born proofreader, ask a friend to take a second look.

7. Order: Make any last minute edits, click “Order,” and follow the prompts to checkout. Remember to order extra copies for friends and family—or sell it in our Bookstore. Create your book now and save 15% on all printed orders through April 30th!.

That’s it, you’re done. Give yourself a toast, a pat on the back, and a moment in the sun. Congratulations!

Beautiful Spring {Joules Review}

I was contacted by this wonderful British Country brand (that just opened their website for the US) called Joules, about their Joules Little line for boys and girls. I thought the outfits were so adorable that I asked for one for Ariel to review.

Dress
Cardigan
Wellys
They arrived on Monday and let me tell you Ariel was so excited that she insisted on putting everything on as I opened it!

Since Spring was still being a little slow on showing up here, I'm glad that I had thought ahead and gotten Ariel some tights. She is in loved with the boots been wearing them all week! Though I followed along with their size guide I think Ariel could have gotten a size bigger, but once she wore the outfit for a while it loosen up (also will look so cute in the summer for a bathing suit cover up). The sweater fit perfectly, so did the boots. She's just tall so I should have known to ask for a bigger size but it still fits her fine.

I did two shoots with her in the outfit, one at home before taking AJ to school and the other down at the Waterfront after dropping AJ off to school. I thought it would look cute with the nautical theme to her dress.

As you can see she was able to move around with no problem in the outfit, which is very important to me because my kids are definitely explorers. The boots are great for the Springtime muddy ground, and for jumping. She was completely comfortable and we got many compliments on how cute her outfit was.

Disclosure I was provided these items for review, all opinions and photos are mine.

Booted #SuperKlutz

So continues the Super Klutz saga. The orthopedic said there was no fractures that he saw in the x-ray, had me booted, and sent me for an MRI. Why an MRI you say? Apparently I have a something on the side of my ankle. Though the CAM boot is pretty great, heavy and makes me tired, but I can walk with no pain.

Show and tell!
