Playing in the sun {summer fun}

Give kids ice pops and watch the summer magic unfold.  It also makes for sticky faces and fingers.

There's nothing more heart warming than watching kids run around playing and smiling. Even when you're fighting the never ending battle with strep throat. Which I am finally over, but now have the everlasting cold.

Under water is where I feel at home

Throw me in the water
Let me sink
I'll show you bubbles
What you didn't think
Didn't you know
That my home
Is under the water

The life and times of a modern mermaid

Oh to lay on the beach, next to the sea, to feel the waves crash on my feet.

Where there is fire, there is s'mores

My mom came over to do a camp out with AJ in our backyard. Unfortunately my camera died pretty much right after this.  AJ also had a bit of a problem with camping. After me, Ariel and my lovely hacking cough went inside, AJ freaked out. Mom brought him in and he wanted to go back out, so out he went. About 30 minutes later he was back inside. Poor guy couldn't figure out what he wanted to do.

There was a fire in the fire pit. Which led to s'mores (the reason I brought my hacking cough outside in the first place)  =]

So I raise bookworms

Not often that me and the boyfriend get our girls to ourselves. So when we got the chance last Friday we took them out to Barnes & Noble to play with the books. Cause you know I raise bookworms.

The funny thing is I got bonus points with Ariel's pediatrician cause she knew what books are.  I told him I would be worried if one of my kids didn't know what books were. I've had quite my share of teachers that said they didn't recognize me with a book in my face. And with the amount of books in my room ... well I would be amazed if my kids didn't pick up on what they were.

All that was missing was my little monster boy, AJ, but it was nice to have a quiet trip to B&N.

Not all mermaids have tails

My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold

Upon one summer's morning, I carelessly did stray,
Down by the Walls of Wapping, where I met a sailor gay,
Conversing with a bouncing lass, who seem'd to be in pain,
Saying, William, when you go, I fear you will ne'er return again.
His hair it does in ringlets hang, his eyes as black as sloes,
May happiness attend him wherever he goes,
From Tower Hill, down to Blackwall, I will wander, weep and moan,
All for my jolly sailor bold, until he does return.
My father is a merchant—the truth I now will tell,
And in great London City in opulence doth dwell,
His fortune doth exceed ₤300,000 in gold,
And he frowns upon his daughter, 'cause she loves a sailor bold.
A fig for his riches, his merchandize, and gold,
True love is grafted in my heart; give me my sailor bold:
Should he return in poverty, from o'er the ocean far,
To my tender bosom, I'll fondly press my jolly tar.
My sailor is as smiling as the pleasant month of May,
And oft we have wandered through Ratcliffe Highway,
Where many a pretty blooming girl we happy did behold,
Reclining on the bosom of her jolly sailor bold.
Come all you pretty fair maids, whoever you may be
Who love a jolly sailor bold that ploughs the raging sea,
While up aloft, in storm or gale, from me his absence mourn,
And firmly pray, arrive the day, he home will safe return.
My name it is Maria, a merchant's daughter fair,
And I have left my parents and three thousand pounds a year,
My heart is pierced by Cupid, I disdain all glittering gold,
There is nothing can console me but my jolly sailor bold.

Real photographers don't need fancy equipment

There's this weird perception that to be a real photographer you need to have the top of the line, fancy, expensive camera. Which is just plain wrong.

I've seen photographers take amazing photos on 1mp cameras. On disposable cameras. On gasp camera photos.

What makes a real photographer is their eye. Their intuition for a great shot. Their knowledge. The ability to see the big picture.

Do I have a fancy, expensive camera? Yes I do. I also have a camera phone that I take everywhere with me. I also have a 35mm SLR.

And you know what? I take great shots on each camera.

You want my actual portfolio I can show you that. You want to see the weddings I shot (on my 35mm manual camera) I can show you that. I want you to see my business name and remember you I will post on my blog or Instagram or Facebook.

There's a difference.

When Ariel goes punk

Have I mentioned my love for The Little Mermaid?

And now I love her even more

Flowers and frogs oh my

Summer is starting to wind down, just a bit. Not that it means anything for my kids since they are too young for school. But it does mean the days are growing hotter, then colder. I've cherished this summer with my little ones. Ariel being old enough to actually go do things, AJ growing and changing.

All in all, I would say it was a pretty good summer. The younger me might have thought it was a drag, being broke and not having my own car (and to be honest at some points I thought the same thing). But really it was fun. I've spent time with my kids, my friends. We've played outside, in the sprinklers, with sidewalk chalk. Picnics and parties. Pools and lemonade. We have a few things left to do but all in all it was a great summer.

And we still have one more month of it. Few things that we are definitely going to try and do is a drive in movie, a day at the beach, camping in the backyard, and a favorite from my younger days SUN TEA! (There might be some lemonade too.)

Then there was quite time for mommy and princess
